Excuse me for being rude

excuse me
Of course I waited like 5 minutes for the lady to finish her ice cream selection, even though I already knew what I wanted. I'm what you would call a "doormat".

Sometimes...

Sometimes it takes a real whack job to make you realize how great your life is.

Sometimes you think everyone else is messed up and needs therapy, but maybe you're the only one that needs help.

Sometimes if you eat fish too fast, you get bones lodged in your throat.

Sometimes if you stand around a person long enough, they'll end up telling you their whole life story.

Sometimes if you leave something alone (like a plant), it will do wondrous things.

Know what I mean?

I hate it when people say things like, "know what I mean?" or "do you understand what I'm saying?" because if people didn't know what you meant they would probably ask questions to clarify. But I think people say those statements more rhetorically and don't really want people to respond anyway. Do you know what I mean?

Racism is not a laughing matter

There is a double standard for racism, which is why there are so many racist people around today, when you'd think that now that it's the 21st century, people would overlook those kinds of stupid things and just go on with their lives. But there's way too much finger pointing going on towards particular races that it just doesn't make the stereotypes go away.

I'm not a regular reader of "The Boondocks" comic strip, but once in a while I'll read it because I'm trying really hard to figure out why this young kid managed to get himself a huge syndication deal for such a lame comic strip when I'm still stuck here with my corporate day job because I can't get myself to come up with good ideas to put myself out there in the comic strip world. (I know, I'm lazy.) ANYWAYS...today's Boondocks features a white guy wearing a t-shirt and shorts jogging in the snow, and the other side has two little black kids all bundled up, and one kid says, "White people."

I'm sure if I were a white person and I wrote that same strip featuring a black person jogging in the snow and two white kids saying, "Black people", then I'd get my ass censored and sued and I'd never be able to show my face again. But the sheer fact that the writer of Boondocks is black himself makes it ok. It's not even funny! The Boondocks is never funny. It's typically very racist, talking about how the little black kid is always repressed by the white man. Tell me, where do you find repression like that prevalent nowadays? I wonder what white people feel when they read it. I also wonder what black people think when they read it. Do they think, "Yeah, that's what I'm talking about!" or do they think, "What the hell is this kid talking about?" Because that's what I think.

I think being blatantly racist for the sake of desensitizing people is not the way to go. It just makes people feel like it's ok to be racist and then we'd all end up being racist and everyday you'd hear things on the news like, "A hispanic man won the lottery today" or "A fire broke out today because an asian man left a candle burning in his apartment". Race would become more important qualifiers for describing people, you'll start to want to know whether the person who's going to come install your cable is black or white, so you can know whether or not to hide your expensive silver. But honestly, shouldn't you be worried of a weird person coming into your house, regardless of race? :-P

I guess there's really no good or bad way of going about dealing with racism. If this Boondocks guy wants to take the route of a desensitization program, then so be it. But if kids I know start learning to say things like, "Psshhh! White people..." then I'll start writing letters to the syndicate.

Movie review: "Dodgeball" left me feeling punched in the gut

Dodgeball sounded like it could be a really funny movie (despite having Ben Stiller in it), but it was everything that any movie featuring Ben Stiller is: stupid, lame, not funny, and stupid.

I think the only funny parts of the movie were when people were getting hit in the face by dodgeballs.

I really think Ben Stiller is a talentless hack and it kills me that he makes more money than I could ever see in my lifetime. His comic delivery is too forced and unnatural. Maybe people think that's funny, because it makes him seem realistic, but I think it makes him seem like he didn't practice his lines. I don't like seeing actors and actresses playing the same characters over and over, even in different movies. Ben Stiller only has two characters that he plays, 1) the sad sack loser that has everything go wrong for him (like Meet the Parents, There's Something About Mary, Along Came Polly, every other movie he's in), and 2) the evil megalomaniac that has some evil plan to help people lose weight (Dodgeball, Heavy Weights). That's about the extent of his acting capabilities. I guess some people are just type cast and end up playing the same character over and over because it works for them, like Ben's dad Jerry Stiller, who plays the same old senile grumpus in different shows or movies (Seinfeld, King of Queens), but makes it work because he's actually funny. I think I've blogged about this before a long time ago, but I can't remember.

Anyways, Dodgeball was dumb, don't waste your time.

Some statistics I would like to know...

How many people in jail used to be cops themselves?

How many people who enter a phD program actually fail to get their degree after 6 years?

Vacation is bad for work

I have to go to work tomorrow after not having gone to work for about 2 weeks. I know, isn't it great that I have a job where it doesn't really matter if I'm there or not?

Sometimes that makes me think whether or not my job really is important. Some people like knowing that they'll always be needed, like people will always need places to eat and houses to live in, so there's always a need for restaurants and construction workers. And doctors and lawyers. But there's not really a constant need for whatever it is that I do. Thus my 2 week vacation.

Anyways, that's not really the philosophical reason that's keeping me up, not looking forward to going to work...it's really more that I don't want to deal with the "customers." being away from any type of people that need something in any situation, like leaving them stranded for 2 weeks and then finally showing up when you feel like it is never good.

I'm having anxiety issues! @_@

Posting from phone

I'm testing this out because it didn't seem to work earlier...

Blogging from BlackBerry

I should have tried this out before I went on vacation so I could do this
during the week but I didn't think about it. I actually went to the Blogger
website and logged in and tried to post but you know with all the fancy
javascript the stupid post button didn't work! Argh!!!

Anyways, I figured out how to post using email, so I guess I'll have to
live with that. ^_^

When in doubt, run, don't take the train

I don't really like the Dallas airport. Probably because one time I took the stupid train like it suggested on the map ("if you're here and you want to go here, you should take the train") and of course the train got stuck halfway to the next terminal and I missed my flight. And then I had to catch another flight going to Las Vegas so I could change to another plane there so I could finally make my destination. It was a nightmare. My parents were already waiting at the airport, and instead of asking the airline people to help me page them, I ended up calling my aunt who lives close to the airport to go down there and find them (this was in the age before cellphones of course).

But now that we have cell phones, it's much better. Last week when I was in Dallas airport again, I even wasted an hour or so reading news and checking the weather and trying to blog on my phone. By the way, the blogging from the phone didn't work because my phone's browser didn't support the fancy javascript that blogger.com uses to post stuff. It was really frustrating.
